Migrants in the Orenburg region. problems of social and cultural adaptation

Abstract

The relevance of the problem identified by the authors of this article is beyond doubt. Migration processes in Russia's border region, specifically the Orenburg region, impact various aspects of Orenburg residents' lives, as well as the socio-political situation. The most important factors in regulating migration processes are issues of socio-cultural adaptation and the integration of migrants into Russian society.

To identify the factors facilitating these processes, a sociological study was conducted with migrants of various nationalities who arrived from Central Asian countries (random sample). The study revealed numerous problems hindering the enhanced adaptation and integration of migrants: Migrants experienced difficulties with officially registering their stay in Russia. The registration system is time-consuming and expensive. Difficulties in finding housing are also encountered, but those registered at their place of residence are able to successfully resolve these issues. Employers are often uninterested in legally employing migrant labor and refuse to sign employment contracts with them. Migrants have no problem accessing education or healthcare. Overall, the survey showed a relatively high level of adaptation among migrants in the Orenburg region.
